A perpetual of the ginger family, this plant is sometimes translated as 'Japanese ginger'. Myoga is homophonic with another word that means 'blessings from the gods', so it has long been considered auspicious. People who adopted myouga as their kamon probably hoped to reap its good fortune. Myouga crests look similar to gyoyo crests, so they are sometimes confused or equated.
